Agak mewah kayaknya bersama-sama keluarga,

Begini soalan saya padanya.

Saya : Bapak dari Indo ya?

Bpk : Ya?Kenapa?

Saya : Kapan bapak libur kemari?(sambil tersenyum sinis)

Bpk : Udah kurang lebih sebulan?

Saya : Dimana ginap?

Bpk : Di Apartment Sunway

Tetapi teringat saya, sewaktu Rasullulah sedang diambang siratul maut,
Baginda berterusan menyebut,umati,umati,umati,

Terus....bagi saya bangsaku,bangsaku,bangsaku......
Bak kata pujangga Charil Anwar

-Tun Dr.Mahatir Mohammad

adapted from :'Persidangan Agung Umno tahun 1983'
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Gua Hantam Sama Lu....12 Stupid Comment

I opened my blog yesterday and found twelve comments by very stupid people who were obviously pissed off with the country, the Malays or whatever. I just had to laugh. Whoever it was that intiated this prank was silly enough to air his/her grouses on this blog. He/she cannot be very smart, eh? Does this look like a blog that's politically inclined? I don't think so. Naturally, I deleted all of them. Go play silly buggers elswhere.

What can I say? Some people are just so dumb that it makes us SUFI's look like quantum physicists.

And thanks Esah GRO for your support on this matter. I appreciate your comment on my previous post.

Any nonsense ....gua hentam lu punya belakang!!!!!

Dari Generasi Ku Buat Generasi Mu.........

Tahnniah Kepada semua yang terpilih keIPTA.
The Struggle has just begins
Its a 'Long Walk To Freedom'

Buat semua, hayati Sajak ini.

Dek,
Kami dilahirkan didalam fitrah
anugerah maha azali
Kami serba kekurangan tanpa bantuan kecanggihan,
Tanpa 'online' untuk menambahkan pengetahuan am.

Dek,
Kami dilahirkan tanpa ucapan singkatan abdja membolehkan
semua tawa riang
duka ditagih
simpati diraih
hanya untuk pasarana manja

Kami hanya diam
memperbetulkan permainan pistol-pistolan kayu kami yang usang
pelepah-pelepah nipah menjadi sorotan
roda-roda rim berputaran
Kami terhibur
Kami menhibur Kami bertempur
Kami akur pada waktu-waktu pilihan

Dek,
tanpa ulaman-ulaman keserian
tanpa sejadah tebal hingga menenggelamkan kaki-kaki hitam
tapi kami masih menyerah dalam redza

Dek,
kekaguman jati diri sesama insan, kami pelajari sesama sendiri,
supaya dapat memperbetulkan langkah-langkah kami yang sumbang
melalui indra kami yang serba sederhana.

Kami masih boleh mendabik dada mesti pun
kami letih....
kami perih....
berserta ketulan-ketulan rebutan
supaya kalian dibekalkan tanpa bebanan.

Dek,
Jangan kau leka
hanya alpa dengan Iswara
Jangan kau tawa kecacatan kami yang ada,
semasa kami cuba sedaya
semasa menyediakan pasarana yang ada
....nah Menara Angkasa
....nah Putrajaya
....nah Cyberjaya
....nah Mercu Tanda
....nah Kahzanah Bangsa atas nama yang terukir.

Eeeeiiii.....yaaaa,
keringat kami cuma setitis

Dek,
Teruruskah engkau?
Menguruskah engkau?
Terbagikah engkau?
Membagikah engkau?
segala-galanya?

Usah dicari erti negeri
sekiranya hati kau masih sangsi
Sekiranya mata kau belum suci
Hanya Maha Azali
pembuka diri melalui pintu-pintunya yang suci.

Keretek -Tak Nak Ke ?

Some 50 years ago at a diplomatic reception in London, one man stood out.He was short by European standard and thin and he wore a black fez ie. songkok over his white hair. And from his mouth he breathed a stream of aromatic smoke that permeated the reception hall.

This man Hj.Agus Salim, the Republic of Indonesia first ambassador to Great Britian, refers to in his country as the 'Grand Old Man'.
Pak Agus, was among the 1st.generation of Indonesian to have recieved a western education. In this regards he was a 'rare spicies' for at the end of the Dutch hegemony over Indonesia in 1942,less than 4% of the country population could read or write.

Not surprising,Pak Agus appears and demour not to mention the strange smell of his cigarettes - quickly turned him into the centre of attention. One gentleman put into words the question that was on everyone lips,"What is that thing you are smoking ,sir?"

Replied candidly and sharp by Pak Agus,"That, your Excellency?"
Pak Agus is reported to have said,it is the reasons for which the West conqured the world".

In fact,he was smoking a Kretek,an Indonesian cigarettes spiced with cloves which for centuries was one of the worlds most sought after spice.

Hmmm....I remember watching 'The Tengku' a chain-smoker, on the 31st August 'Merdeka Day' state of address to the nation before live TV telecast,Sipping Kopi 'O' and a few puff of John Players unfiltered.

I am sure the Film Negara or Akib Negara film archives has the reels to prove my point.
Again not only Proton or Petronas could be a National pride, cigarettes too could be our main exported to sell the countrys name and image.

So...what so special about the Tak Nak programme?
Nak Tak Nak aje?

Football.....The Curi Ayam Game

**ayah 1952**

Yes..yes the football fever is on again.
Me like any others male species are hook to the game and could not resist to watch the live telecast.

Wow....hang on a minute, anyone has any interesting tale to tell about football?
Yes the 'curi ayam'slang meaning a foul play by footballers every time a players cross over before the ball reached the line.
What ever it means, it does mean something to our local foot pundits.

Me basically,my daily pocket money comes from football.
Yeap..ayah is a football umpire and active one too,
'Joe Play Go'- The Football Umpire the locals nick name him.
Call it a shot he will be there on any afternoon at the Bandar Hilir padang, that is before the Padang turns into a concreate jungle by the State Government, turning the Padang at first as a 'Sound and Lighting Arena' and later I don't know what other mall they wanted to build for a population of a small city of 100,000 population.
Gone with the playing fields supposed to dig the talented Malaccan football players and up the mass super shopping mall.
Well, any newly decorated so call city needed a brand new shopping mall,I supposed

Yes, being a football freak the Imam of my kampong, the late Iman Hj.Sapau is one freak of a footballer.
There was on one occasion, the Malacca Team led by 'The Towkey aka Soh Chin Ann" was playing for the FA Cup.It was the was the semi-finalist game,if I may recall. He refuses to leads the Fridays prayers solely to enable him to see the match at the Kubu Stadium.I wonder when will the new state Stadium would be ready?
It seems it take ages to built one.

The Padang do have historical significant.
Firstly, it was the first Padang where the Proclaimation of Independence was hail by 'The Tengku' in 1956 arriving back from the pre independence discussion with the English Authority.
During its hey day, the padang not only breezees with cooling air from the seas of the Straits of Malacca but fill with leisure activities in the evening.
After a football match ayah will walk with me to the nearest stall for supper of Rojak and Satay not forgetting Air Tebu at Wak Temu stall under the 'Old Gum tree' right facing the famous 'A Famosa'.Fresh food off course.
Arwah Wak Temu is the dad of the National Hockey player Kamaruddin Temu.

It was from this field the birth of our National Skipper, now a Dato Soh Chin Ann aka 'Towkeh' is born.So does the national hockeys players Tam Kuan Seng,Haridas,Zamani Othman,Razak Leman,Zulkifli Bakar and Adnan Bakar both are sibling is groom.
Those were the days we play football and hockey for the love of the game not for the sake of money. The pride to be able to represent the state was a honour and be look up at,since under 12 MSSM competition.

Ayah, an avid sportman ever since his young age till now has instill a high level of sportmanship in me ever since I was a wee lad.
Even though I do not excel in any sports but I do enjoy watching a good game.
It haves been instilled in me and it comes naturally.

That was how ayah got his extra money, by being a football umpire in the evening.
All the amature clubs matches, he will be there, umpiring the games.Ayah keep fit by running up and down the football feild.
Malacca has vast amount of amature football clubs, those days.Name it, Kubu United,Dunlop United,Lee Sports Club,MCI United,Kg.Morten F.C.
They were the pioneers in the minor league.

Each match the umpire service charge WAS RM5.00.Saturday and Sunday is a full schedual for ayah.At time he has to matches one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Thus if there is 5 games in a week there is an extra RM20.00 a week for ayah.
RM5.00 in early 60's is a big amount.
Considering a goverment clerk pay was only R150 a month and that is how he managed his finance to feed all four of us,educate, and dress us decently.

I bear witness to Allah Almighty, ayah is not a 'CORRUPT' government servant.
He leads his life decently and earn his piece of bread to feed us in a likely manner, far from the the element of corruption.

Anybody dares to challege this statement please do so 'BUT' beware the court is all hearing!

The evening collection will goes to his LP collection of Titik Puspha,Ernie Djohan,Lilie Suryani,S.Affendi.Bing Selamat,Gersang etc.etc.etc.Not to forgetting Matt Monroe,Big Brother Frank,King Nat etc etc.

It was from ayah I learn to appreciated collectable items.
Ayah has amazing oldies LP's and still in his possession at home.
The umpire fees, goes to his little collectable space nice and neatly arrange

His sportmanship brought him everywhere. He plays tennis for the RISDA sport club, and still plays tennis right up when he is retired up until he met with an fatal accident which causes him to limp.
A handicap man,now but he still does 'senamrobik' everyday.
You find him doing his routine at the Bukit Serindit Park everyday except when it is raining.

May Allah protect my beloved Ayah.
May be one day I tell the story how ayah tried to groom me to be a national tennis player and match me with Adam Malik the first Tennis Pro from Malaysia. Its a long to brag and it begins way back in 1970 when I was in Standard 5.

In the mean time there is only one Dad,that is My Ayah that has 'NEVER EVER'
"Curi Ayam To Feed His Entire Family"
Syukur Lillah my families purely tummy is clean.

3 Eggs in one Basket - Is it Possible?

“ Adalah suatu hairan lagi tercengang aku sebab melihat dan memikirkan hal orang melayu ini belum sedar akan dirinya, dia tinggal dalam bodohnya itu oleh sebab ia tiada mahu menaruh tempat belajar bahasanya, maka mustahil pada akal adakah orang yang tiada belajar itu boleh menjadi pandai dengan sendirinya. Bukankah segala bangsa di dunia ini masing-masing ada belajar bahasanya?.”

-Abdullah Munshi

"It puzzle and makes me wonders thinking of the Malays whom hasn't changed. They live in their stupidity and do not want to learn languages.
It it impossible to learn without learning and it is impossible to be self taught.
Doesn't all nationality learn their own language?

The Mestro-Al Fatiha

It was past two Ramadan ago,I wrote a story of an extra ordinary old man "Pak Sako" yes, name it, the Nationalist, the easy going novelist to a walking dictonary.Pak Sako earns it.The witty nationalist.Dare to challenge the BMA till was put to cold storage by the master at that time era.
The strong feel for his simple novel approx.200 pages thick but fullfill my quest to a write about him.It was 'Putra Gunung Tahan', a witty political staire novel.
In a sudden, the feel came and I just couldn't stop the strong desire to find and buy the book.

Today,I just couldn't stop the urge to write about a man,"Peoples Man" if you could name it.It has been 2 weeks since he 'pulang ke ramatullah' meets his lord.I haven't met him personally neither do have a chat with him.I do not have any family connection with his family neither, either have asked any direct favor from him.
Very influential figure and am able one.Victim of circumtances at time during his tenure.

Why do I decide to write about this man?
I don't know him only in news headlines
either asked a favour 'BUT' I am a fair person.
'Credit and Honour' given where it is due,I suppose.

About two years ago ibu, told me this story and the story was confirm by a close friend of mine, treated like a son by my mum and members of the family. The event took place while arwah apak was still alive. They were having supper at the famous Nasi Lemak Berlauk Ujung Pasir Melaka. The meeting took place approx 10 years ago.

This old giant man in size and status walk towards my mum's table.
Asking her,"...awak Shamsiah anak Cikgu Dollah Pucung ya?
To ibu suprise, she answer sheepishly answered "Ya".
Tok Wak aka. Cikgu Dollah Puchung met his Lord 15 years ago.He retired as Nazir Sekolah-Sekolah Melayu in Melaka way back in the 50's at ripe age of 88.
Goodness me,this man remember Cikgu Dollah Puchong and asked all his children.
He asked each and everyone of my mum sibling.Mind you, he remember all the 10 names.

So when the news of his death reached the public,I took the steps to pay a respect at his home at Bukit Bandar Raya and his burial ground at'Makam Pahlawan'
BECAUSE:

'A man whom who could remembered a small retired school teacher from A Solok', retired late 1950's and all his 10 children names
'Stood A Great Statemanship Skills and Stands Tall Among Peers of the Nation.'

Good Old Imam

Several years ago an imam moved to my area. He often took the bus from his home to the downtown area. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the same bus. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him twenty cents too much change.
As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, you better give the twenty cents back. It would be wrong to keep it. Then he thought, oh forget it, it's only twenty cents..
Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company already gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from Almighty Allah and keep quiet.
When his stop came, the Imam paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the twenty cents back to the driver and said " Here, you gave me too much change." The driver with a smile replied,
" Aren't you the new Imam in this area? I have been thinking lately about going to worship at your mosque. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change."
When the Imam stepped off the bus, his knees became weak and soft. He had to grab the nearest light pole and held for support, and looked up to the heavens and cried
"Oh Allah, I almost sold Islam for twenty cents!

Remember, we may never see the impact our actions have on people. Sometimes we are the only knowledge of Quran someone will read, or the only Islam a non-Muslim will see. What we need to provide, Insha Allah is an example for others to see. Be careful and be honest everyday, because you never know who is watching your actions and judging you.

Angkasawan Nak Ke Bulan !! oh! nasib Fakulti Sains Ku

hmm..nak pergi ke bulan. Lihat majallah Budiman Universiti Malaya

Bila di tanya kepada Dean Fakulti Sains apakah wawasan Fakulti Sains and harapannya and matlamatnya Fakulti

dipetik Daripada majallah Budiman Keluaran Universiti Malaya Januari 2006.Bil.77

Nyonya Mansor : "Kassim Selamat? Siapa dia Kassim Selamat? Lawyer? Graduan Fakulti Sains Universiti Malaya?"

Sabariah : "Ahli Musik"

Nyonya Mansor : "Ahli Musik? Memang pantang datuk nenek aku ahli musik.Anak tidak mengenang jasa!!"

That Is My Inyik.- Sheihk Sulaiman AlRasuli Candung

Memegang Teguh Mazhab Syafi'i

Orang Kedil Berjiwa Besar - Al Fatiha

Berani...Tabar dan Bijak....Prammoedya Ananta Toer.

"Ilmu pengetahuan semakin banyak melahirkan keajaiban. Dongengan leluhur sampai malu tersipu. Tak perlu lagi orang bertapa bertahun untuk dapat bicara dengan seseorang di seberang lautan. Orang Jerman telah memasang kawat laut dari Inggris sampai India! Dan kawat semacam itu membiak berjuluran ke seluruh permukaan bumi. Seluruh dunia kini dapat mengawasi tingkah-laku seseorang. Dan orang dapat mengawasi tingkah-laku seluruh dunia" (Bumi Manusia, p.316).

[Scientific knowledge brought into being ever more wonders. The legends of my ancestors were shamed into silence. No longer did one have to meditate for years to be able to speak with someone across the sea. Some Germans had stretched a sea-cable from England to India! And wires of this sort were proliferating from here to there all across the face of the earth. Now the whole world could observe the actions of a single person. And one could watch the activity of the whole world.]

The Judiciary and a Study in Independence - from Roger Tan article NST 2/4/06

A STORY is told about a newly inducted judge before whom a multi-billion-peso case was pending.

One day, a lawyer who was involved in the litigation visited the judge at his residence. Surprised, the judge asked, “What brings you here? Don't you know it is unethical to discuss pending cases outside the courtroom?”

“Your honour, I did not come to influence you. But if you will look outside your window and into your driveway, you will notice a brand-new Mercedes Benz which I have brought here,” the lawyer coolly said.

“That's even worse; you have come to bribe me!” the judge angrily blurted.

“Oh no, your honour, I am not giving you the car. I am selling it to you.”

“For how much?” asked the pacified jurist.

“One thousand pesos, your honour,” was the firm reply.

“In that case,” the judge calmly retorted, “I am buying two!”

This apocryphal story was told in jest by Filipino Supreme Court Justice Artemio Panganiban (now Chief Justice of the Philippines) in 1999 during a closing ceremony of a workshop for first-level judges.

Justice Panganiban went on to say: “My dear judges, ladies and gentlemen, that may have been told in jest. But it demonstrates the witchcraft and the indecent proposals with which members of the bench are tempted from time to time.

“Indeed, judges are subjected to all sorts of temptations and pressures - some brazen, some subtle, some direct, some indirect.

“Litigants and their lawyers are sometimes devious. They study the judge's profile, personality, family history and employment record in a spirited effort to find a weak point.

“Some resort to blackmail, some to political pressure, still others to friendship or kinship or even religious relationships.

“Many times lawyers are retained by litigants not because of their skill and brilliance in legal advocacy, but because of their judicial connections, fancied or real. “The ultimate question some litigants ask their counsel is not ‘Is my case meritorious?’ but ‘Do you know the judge?’”

Do such things happen here too? Let me avoid liability by not answering it but leave it to the individual reader – be you a judge, prosecutor, lawyer, litigant or a member of the public.

If, however, the answer to my question is in the affirmative, then indeed something is very wrong with the state of affairs of our judiciary which is supposed to be the fountain of justice and bulwark of our liberties.

Given then that Malaysian judges will also have to overcome such temptations and pressures, one often asks how and who do we appoint to that seat of justice?

As judges generally enjoy judicial immunity and removing any errant judges is a cumbersome exercise, it is at the appointment stage that is pivotal to ensure that only those who truly deserve this high office are appointed.

The reason, as one of America’s finest trial lawyers, Gerry Spence, put it so trenchantly:

“Who are these judges who wield such power over us, a power reserved for God? Who are these mere humans with the power to wrest children from their mothers and to condemn men to death or cage them like beasts in penitentiaries? Who possesses the power to strip us of our professions, our possessions, our very lives?

“They make law. They may take away your wife or your good name or your freedom or your fortune or your life. They are omnipotent. And the question is: To whom have we so carelessly granted that power? Are they the kind who would understand you, who from their experiences would know something of the fears and struggles you have faced? Will they care about you or about justice?”

Currently, judges are appointed by the King, on the advice of the Prime Minister after consulting the Conference of Rulers, and the Chief Justice if the appointment is to the Federal Court; the President of the Court of Appeal if the appointment is to the Court of Appeal, and the respective Chief Judges if the appointment is to the High Court.

The only appointment criteria to such high judicial office are contained in Article 123 of the Federal Constitution, which provides that the appointee must be a Malaysian citizen and for the 10 years preceding his appointment has been an advocate or a member of the judicial and legal service.

But these criteria are hardly adequate compared to those set by other Commonwealth jurisdictions because a judge holds his judicial office quamdiu se bene gesserit (during good behaviour).

Britain, for example, will have an independent Judicial Appointments Commission tomorrow under the Constitutional Reform Act 2005, doing away with the centuries-old practice of letting the Lord Chancellor make or recommend judicial appointments to the Queen.

In fact, the Bar Council has been advocating such a Commission for some time. While as a check and balance, the executive should continue to have a say on the appointment and promotion of judges, there also should be an independent body to make recommendations to the executive, otherwise judges will be deferential to the heads of the judiciary and, if appointed, will be beholden to their heads.

This may later give rise to accusations of judicial cronyism and sycophancy.

A fortiori it is also against the national interest if a powerful Chief Justice can get his friends appointed to the Federal Court who can then actually “legislate” from the bench. Therefore, the ability to stand up against any interference with judicial independence both from within and without should be the sine qua non to a judgeship.

In fact, I agree with Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim that judicial appointments must be based on merit, except that seniority should ordinarily be the prime consideration and if it is not so, it must be in exceptional circumstances.

As experience often comes with seniority, the Chief Justice was lauded for suggesting that only judicial officers who have at least five to seven years’ experience be allowed to sit as magistrates.

It is axiomatic that if many juniors are elevated, then that is as good as saying that senior judicial or legal officers lacked any merit when they were appointed!

To my mind, for juniors to leap-frog over their seniors, they must be exceptionally brilliant and capable judicial and legal officers. For example, do we check the number of judgments they have written and out of these, how many have been affirmed by the higher courts?

It follows that a body of persons such as the commission would be more capable of objectively assessing the suitability of judicial appointees.

We owe it to our nation and the next generation to ensure that only the best among the best are elevated. One may then ask what the attributes of a good judge are?

Justice Panganiban said the qualities of a good judge are encapsulated by four “Ins” - integrity, independence, industry and intelligence.

He also declared on the website of the Supreme Court of the Philippines to lead a judiciary characterised by the four ins and “one that is morally courageous to resist influence, interference, indifference and insolence” which is impervious to the plague of “ships” - kinship, relationship, friendship and fellowship.”

Has our country ever produced such a good judge? Of course, we have had many good judges who had borne true faith and allegiance to Malaysia, and who had lived up to their oaths of office in preserving, protecting and defending our Constitution.

Leading this group of legendary judges is none other than the former Lord President from 1974-1982, the late Tun Mohamed Suffian Hashim.

Many tributes and accolades have already been paid to Tun Suffian, who was undoubtedly Malaysia’s greatest judicial figure, and I say he passed Justice Panganiban’s four ins test with flying colours.

I recall these words written in my autograph book by my primary school headmaster:

“A good thing has its number of days and a good name will last forever.”

How relevant indeed, as a judge should always be mindful of the kind of name he will leave behind when he steps down. Suffian has left behind an unblemished name. Though small in build, he was a fine example of a towering Malay and, most of all, a towering Malaysian.

On April 28, the Tun Suffian Foundation will hold its inaugural fund-raising dinner to raise funds for establishing a Tun Suffian Chair on Constitutional Law, Tun Suffian Scholarship and Tun Suffian Research Centre at Universiti Malaya.

Malaysians, especially those who were associated with Suffian, must donate generously to the foundation. More information can be obtained from http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/content/view/2523/2.

It is no secret that the Bar is known for ostracising judges who have gone astray, but the Bar is also always the first to defend and honour judges who have stayed steadfast to their oaths of office as the guardians of our Constitution.

Suffian was one such judge. May he inspire many more in the years to come.

Joke For The Day

A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was:

"Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a huge failure...

In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.

In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.

In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.

In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.

In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.

In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.

And in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant

Muwauuu,Moore or Muar?

To Malaccan Muwauu.. with a thick accent has a close historical linkage.
Some say Parameswara saw his kancil at Muar and latter proceed to Melaka,Both are situated at river bank.Any world civilization are situated close to a river.Source of livelyhoodness.I grew up next to a river. The Sungai Air Molek.Hmmm..What a memory.I will tell the story latter not at moment.

What really drives me to write is my fav.hanging out place, a small not sleezy sleepy town but a small town 20 miles from my solok.Muar, yes
I spent 2 years in Muar learning how to learn. The town where bicycle overtakes cars.Must say it the least polluted place I have ever come across.Bicycle the main transportation.
Yes,the kodok?hmmm....serba lengkap and halus perkertinya.Somebody should write a song of something of 'Gadis Muar' or Muar Blues.
Yes our premier father Dato Onn Jaffar hails from Mooree.

Ghazal,is made known by Muarian,Ustaz Fadzil Ahmad and Arwah Pak Chik Ahmad Jusoh the mestro of Maharani Ghazal Party hail from Muar. You should be there when Maharani Ghazal Party was at it peak. They even have a belly dancer.
Once the party begins it rocks till morning beb!And it sure rock on till dawn together with Arwah Pak Chik Wahid my ghazal and gambus guru. They such do rock-on.
Arwah Pak Chik Wahid recently pass away pecefully due to asthma cronic attack. His skill on tabla in particular is amazing.A multi instrumentalist. There was in one occasion,he was on a Grand-Piano at ASK auditorium hall.I was really shock to hear him on the Yahama grand piano doing solo on late Tan Sri.Ramlee's "Ibu".
One solid tune and what struck me was that was the last tune I heard him playing and a week late he meets his Lord.Alfatiha.

Together with Dato Johari Salleh,he leads the DBKL oskrestra.Pak Wahid as he is affectionaly, known leads the traditional section. What a man, petit in size ,but massive talent, gifted naturally without any impressive music qualification from so call Berkelly Sch.of Music or LRSM.Once he,hit a note particullary on tabla on par with Zakir Hussien beb?His Rabita hits 44/60.Even 'Take Five of Dave Brubeck' only hits 25/60.And this is from a man whom is little known to the world and he hails from Muar.

For Muarian,Muar is pronounce as Mooore.Hmm....only the Muarian knows to pronounce it.Tanjung has deep meaning for me.I cant explain why.Latter perhaps.Thinking of Muar, and your mind will definitely conjure up images of delicious and inexpensive food. Muar, which is also known as Bandar Maharani, is a popular place for food that is served to you by the many food stalls and restaurants found scattered throughout the city. This picturesque town is located on the Muar River, which in the older days, was the main reason for its growth as the river was a means of transportation. Following the southern side of the river mouth, you can take a leisurely drive/stroll along the tree-lined Jalan Tanjung and admire the beautiful park, old colonial and government buildings as well as mosques.
Muar is also all about "Mee Bandung Muar". To many, nothing beats the original taste of the noodles from Johor itself. Mee Bandung Muar is all about the gravy, which is a thick concoction of prawn and chili paste that is blended together and mixed with beef soup. The gravy is then poured over a bowl of noodles, and enhanced by some beansprouts and a sprinkle of egg slices, bean curd and beef.

Aha....dont forget the cream puff and coke flote at Kim Leng cafe. The soto Ayam, the shop next to the Sahara Coffee House.
After a day field trip I hop back to my sleepy hollow 'Solok' riding on ominni bus M.O.S.That is how the $25 Federal Minor scholarship been spent,on food in Muar and at Muar Book Store at Jln.Salleh.

Take a closer look. Not to forget the chappati near the Padang round about leading to Jln.Parit Sulong Batu Pahat.Any change Muarian??

Know Your Roots Man!!!

Hmm...

This is will take us a long way....

An Old Vintage Wine......hmmm...Yes Indeed!!

Hmmm........yes sir, he sure does, together with his generation he does move us in the right direction. He was one of the early birds in Radio broadcasting during the Beatles hip era via his husky golden voice he taught us those 'solok' guys the proper English, right pronuncation, proper intonation plus the music of Nat King Cole to Bee Gees 'Staying Alive'.He done us proud I am sure his other half and children is dammed proud of his modest achievement.

Very well indeed,I patiencely waits for his weekly radio show every Sunday precisely at 10am for 2 hours. That old faithful A4 battery operated 'Singer' we had at home is mine for that particular hour.Me at that particular hour will be cleaning my white canvass 'Bata' shoes, yeap school the next day,has to be neat and tidy for Monday assembly or else, I get the best 2 or if it's my unlucky day it will be the best 4 from Mr.Kumara Dass at the Cadet Room.
Pick and choose the ammo,he surely do have an ample collection of yessss....'CANES ' I mean,yeap...the one which whack our backside when we had a discipline problems,it landed on me a few times.
Sure do learn my lesson well.
He taught us English via his chats in the radio.
New words and proper grammer usage.I pick it from him.
Listening tentatively to his husky voice every Sunday, the'Kee Huat Radio Show' he was the show host and it did survived a couple of seasons till I am able to write a love letter.

Yes, I learn to write my ever first love letter by listening to his show.
It was the S.W.A.K and the Jeremy era.The sweet face of the main child actor whom ran off with his girlfriend to Venice......alah I forgotten his name.I think it was Mark ...something!It was before Linda Blair and her Excoist mania.
That film really inspire Bollywood to produce another block buster movie of that era"Bobby". Not to mention Hawaii 5-o with that handsome looking Steve Megarrat and his assistent Danny or weekly sit-com 'The Brady Bunch' and that handsome David Cassidy on 'The Partridge Family'.

Me,a 'solok ' guy watching that show? Yes indeed.....!!!
Will be arguing with my sibs if the wrestling programme is on.I know that is not my t.v day then. One t.v for a couple of family to share.
That was how is was then!
Am I bragging about the post independence socio climate?
No not at all,but by back tracking, that is how we learned to sort our present.
Anybody who doesn't? so be it!!

Why did I write this yeh?
I am not too sure in pronouncing either 'TOKOK or Tokoh'?
That what his blogspot name is!!
Yes he is Mr............ to me I call him Sir Patrick Teo.

To me Tokok means rambling, but, you sir... might have thought of probably the manglish meaning ie.'talk-cork' ie. idle conversation.
Tokoh is personality which definately, you has that.

You....a 'Tokoh' to me and a few others of my batch sir...... I can be sure of that!
You sir,you has that charm, inspiring our generation with those soft melody,
yeah... the clean cut sound, no distortion compared to todays MIDI gadget which most of todays musician used. With the aid of 'Cake Walk' a dump fool could sell his CD's at any back lane an claim it original....'inhouse made' lah brother!!!I am talking where music is played in a group.
A joint effort of a team producing quality sound.Quality showmanship and quality master piece. There is a diffrence between 'evergreen and classic'.
Stairsway to Heaven is classic but Green Grass of Home is evergreen. So do Carmilla by Ebiet that is classic and may more........
I know ...is not rock and roll but something of Lobo or Neil Diamond or Carpenters is 'ok' to our big brother.
Yes, I know our Big Bro is a bit of pain in the....at times.
Back then, yes I know.....big bro is watching us.
I remember our big bro has a rubber stamp on Rod Steward 'Maggie Mae' or Stairsways To Heaven' Definate no play air time.
I dont understand why they censor 'The Revolvers'.They were great, instead every sunday we has to listen to the tune Beauatiful Sunday,I forgoten the group! opphs sorry, either!
I am sure if our Big Bro then gave a lee way to our local group air time,I am positively a sure our Artist performersare as good as our regional counter part if not better. They even gave 'Heavy Machine' a hard time.To jazz freak like me 'NO' so call music of jazz in the air time.
Instead we listen to 'Seriosa' a version of todays Pavarroti?in TV2.
We are the by product of what we see, feel, listen and THINK!!
No wonder it take ages for us to pick up the pieces?
Well......that was the rules back then.
Your comand of elementary English without any accent, straight and grammatically correct improved our written weekly composition tremendeosly.

During my High School tenure together with Nuruddin, we would sneak to a corner of the hostel block to listen to your programme tentatively.
Believe me sir,Nuruddin is another 'Solok' guy, his solok is much further then my 'solok',he is from Bukit Senggeh somewhere near Selandar our minister of 'Human Resources' constituency.
Belief me this guy he specks the 'Nogori English',but man...his written English is explict, belief me..... he got an A1 for English 121 of MCE 1976.
How do we 'The Solok Guys' pick up the language?
Simple answer...
......by tuning to your radio programme.
Its amazing the radio!! it teaches us to be an avid listerner not a watcher as tv does or what ever gadget we have now.
From the portable battery operated size A4 we diguest your word.
Yes sir the 'Solok Guys' made it,by learning how to learn.

Together with your generation of broadcaster Pak Chik Alias,Pak Chik Yahaya Long Chik,Kakak Rubiah Lubis,Abang Nornikman Dadameah and of course our mam Auntie Faridah Merican,we learn the basis English, useage, pronunciation,
expression using the correct process of 'Learning how to Learn' method that is 'Shut Up and Listen'
That is how we were taught.
We learn by listening and able listener, we are sir!
Thanks to your team back in the late 60's and early 70's era sir.
I commend you the very least an AMN to our YDPA.
May god protects you and your family and those who does great contribution to the nation.Be it DJ's,script writers etc, etc, etc.etc
Your positive contribution on being part of nation building goes notice sir.
.......Bravo to all the unsung heroes.

Books...Books Golorious Books

Yes we could...............

It amazing what a half torn wore out atlas could do to me?
Been upkeeping the back dated books either those bought at those Sunday Flea market,MPH store or those years of collection down in Portobello Saturday market or those been given as a present.

I gave away about half a lorry of my National Geografic Society collection to Hj's Wahid home for boys at Sungai Udang Malacca. It was a donkey years of collection. No joke about it that is massive piles of the NGS staging at home before. Most is in sequence order according to years.

I do hope the boys is taking care of those mags. coz' at that particular point in time it was my only property I had in this world.
I still don't have.I begin with nothing and still I have nothing but the pleasure of something has strongly enshine in me and bless with it.

Back to the story board......

The atlas I was mentioning before was 'Philips Illustrated ATLAS of the World,
edited by Bernard Stonehouse publish by George Philips & Son 1986.
In matter of fact it was the 3 edition back dated from 1949.
I got it during my student days via the WH Smith postal order.Back then, there no such thing as e-commerce or e-auction .WH Smith is our version of MPH stores today.
10 solid hardcover for 3 quid!Good deal ayi!!!!!
Mind you my monthly allowence of 267 pound after deducting the rent a good major propotion goes to Virgin's store,HMV or Record n Tape Exchange down at Notthing Hill's Gate or the Saturday Portobello Market.
Yeah... I was staying down in the heart of "The All Saints Road"...mate!
Where highly organised local mafia on the move.
53 Fermoy Road to be precise.

Hmm.....I was not that typical 'Solok' guy staying there, I minggle with the local beb!
but I am able to watch my back coz' its was a Ghetto then.
Now hooo.... go and have look for yourself it is highly gentrified.
Portobello is fully with fine high dine wine places.
Flats now are fill with trendy yuppies.
To some, thanks to the Iron Lady era ie. Maggie Thatcher for up holding Sir Winston Churchill quotation,
'......England is a nation of shop-keepers'
However now shop keepers is run by well connected Patel's or any Chutney's.

Well, back to the atlas,it is full with beautiful photos explaining the various parts of the world.

The plus point of the atlas is it divides itself into all the 6 continent.
What strikes me to write today is the quotation on Asia,

It jots as:

"ASIA - The West can teach the East how to get a living but the East
must eventually be asked to show the West how to live "

-Teh Hsieh,Chinese Epigrams Inside
Out and Proverb (1948),588

Think about it am not qualified to comment deeply,
but I do know how to share the world peacefully, decently, modestly and honestly?

How...........By loving our neighbours?
But only a 'Reasonable Man Neighbour!'

The Journey for the soul has began I suppose?

Blogging Advise

Do You Need A Lawyer??

The Dangers of Blogging

I don't use my blog as a space to rant about things I can't handle in real life, or to attack, retaliate or hit out at someone I know personally with whom I can't do so in person. I believe if you can't face up to reality, don't create an alternate reality just so you can be boss in your little corner of cyberspace. What prompted me to write this now? Simply, I witnessed a couple of people who used their blogs as an extension to an argument they had otherwise relinquished in real life. In reality, they said they had spoken their piece and was done with it. In the blogosphere, it seems they aren't actually done with it yet. Too often people use blogs to make themselves out to be the victims in an argument. Last month, there was a similar incident where, again, the person went on her blog and ranted about how she had been wronged. Like I said, if you can't face up to reality, don't use an alternate one to validate youself. It's dangerous to live in an unreal environment and think that the response you get in that space is somehow valid. Your readers and commentors don't know you personally; the only side of you they see is what they read on your blog. Some commentors can be dangerous too. "Oh, don't worry, I've never met you but you feel like an old friend to me, and I know you're not that kind of person." I think ignorant comments like this do not help the delusioned blogger. If you've never met the person, then you've never met that person. Don't think that you know them just by their online persona, because nine out of ten times, people's online personae are the complete opposite of who they really are. It's also dangerous because things become one-sided and no one really knows the truth except to rely on the blogger's version of it. And what's worse is when some bloggers decide to name the people they're ranting against. Then you're involving a person's reputation and if your story is half-true or fictitious (as most of these rants are anyway), you could be held accountable for defamation. My rule in blogging is simple. If I can't handle it in real life, then I don't blog about it. What's the point? What good would it really do? Isn't it akin to talking to myself? If I have a problem with someone, I duke it out person to person, face to face. I admit, I've tried out a bitching space before, but I got tired of it because my problems didn't really go away, and nothing felt like it had any closure. And then there are those who confuse being outspoken with being rude and obnoxious. Hell no, they're not one and the same. Bitching is not being outspoken. It's just angry, pointless and unconstructive ranting. Unless, of course, it's not personal and/or to parody an issue or something.

You Dont Have to Dear?

You Don't Have To .....Dear......

we don't need "ART" for a few...
we don't need "Education" for a few....
and we don't need "Freedom" for a few....

The Law Is Above You! Above Law?????

"Never Be so High the Law is Above You"
"The King is under no man but under God and the Law
because the Law make the King"

It is a good thing for the Government to be seen to be kind, caring and compassionate, but it is quite another to send the a wrong message that offenders are above the law because punishment can be postponed or ameliorated. This undermines the rule of law.THE concept of the rule of law, which is the fourth guiding principle of our Rukun Negara, can be explained in many ways. But perhaps it is best explained and summed up in the words of Thomas Fuller, who said more than 300 years ago, "Be you never so high, the law is above you."Those words were quoted by Lord Denning, the most celebrated English judge of the 20th century. It was in a case brought by one Mr Gouriet in 1977 when the Attorney-General refused to give him consent to institute relator proceedings to injunct the Union of Post Office Workers from boycotting all postal communications between Britain and South Africa as such actions would constitute criminal offences under the Post Office Act 1953. When the Attorney-General argued that his discretion was absolute and not subject to judicial review, Lord Denning had this to say, and he said it acerbically:"What is to be done about it? Are the courts to stand idly by? Is the Attorney-General to be the final arbiter whether the law should be enforced or not? "It is a matter of great constitutional principle. If the Attorney-General refuses to give his consent to the enforcement of the criminal law, then any citizen in the land can come to the courts and ask that the law be enforced. "This is an essential safeguard; for were it not so, the Attorney-General could, by his veto, saying ‘I do not consent’, make the criminal law of no effect."Confronted with a powerful subject whom he feared to offend, he could refuse his consent time and time again. Then that subject could disregard the law with impunity. "It would indeed be above the law. This cannot be permitted. "To every subject in this land, no matter how powerful, I would use Thomas Fuller’s words over 300 years ago: ‘Be you never so high, the law is above you’."I quoted too Fuller’s words in my letter to the New Straits Times (Parliament, the law and justice for all, Dec 12, 1992) during the constitutional crisis that Rulers were not above the law and if they were, it was because the law had decreed it so and such law could be changed by Parliament. This echoed the words of Henry Bracton that "the king is under no man but under God and the law because the law makes the king".Indeed it sounds really good when one recites Fuller’s words aloud, but just how good is it when you reflect upon your many dealings with our public institutions? I need only to expound on three scenarios.Have you ever heard anyone say any of these?• "If you like to get this matter approved or resolved by that government department, you need to approach A."• "If your case is before that judge, it may be wise to engage lawyer B as others will often get a shelling from the judge."Or have you ever noticed any of these?• You queue up for hours for your turn to be served at a counter in a government office when someone who is known to the pengarah just walks into his office and gets his things done in a matter of minutes.• A so-and-so person can walk in and out of that public official’s office as if it is his second home.Or have you ever experienced this?Your application is rejected but after the intervention of an influential friend of yours, it is approved. One then asks if approval can ultimately be given due to the intervention of a "well-connected" person, is the rejection of your original application not devoid of any good reason? But this is Malaysia, as many would tell you. They would also tell you that you would not be able to survive here if you want to rely solely on your ideals to make a living.According to them, we can talk and almost everything is negotiable, and we can even talk our way out of many laws. But how true are these statements?Well, I do not think they are spurious as the above non-exhaustive scenarios go to show that the way our laws are administered very much depend on who you know and not what you know. Hence if a fresh practitioner in any field cannot work through the system unless he first gets to know the official personally, then something is very wrong with our system of public administration. To my mind, if our public institutions give preferential treatment to those who are rich and powerful who possess "strong connections", then this non-legal route is against the principle of the rule of law which requires everyone to be treated equally. In other words, all persons who are in a similar position should be treated similarly; otherwise such practices will breed a culture of patronage and encourage corrupt practices in our official dealings with government departments.Affording equal treatment stems from the principle of equality before the law which is one of the cardinal ingredients of the rule of law. It is enshrined in Article 8 of the Federal Constitution which also states, inter alia, that no one is to be discriminated on the grounds of religion, race, descent, place of birth or gender unless expressly authorised by the Constitution. As Sultan Azlan Shah once said in one case involving a prince, "This equality of all in the eyes of law minimises tyranny."The next ingredient of the rule of law is that enforcement of laws requires decisiveness and finality, unless there are compelling reasons to the contrary.I have often been embarrassed trying to explain to my foreign friends why our Government is in the habit of extending the moratorium periods for traffic offenders to pay up their fines or illegal immigrants to leave the country. It has come to such a state that these offenders and immigrants take it lightly when the Government next announces the date when they will mobilise forces to apprehend them, as if another postponement to enforcement date is predictable. This is actually an affront to all law-abiding citizens who pay their fines promptly and the foreigners who did not overstay. It has become almost like a joke for an offender to say, "It is still early to pay the fine. I shall wait till they announce that discounts will be given or that I should pay by a certain date to avoid prosecution."It is a good thing for the Government to be seen to be kind, caring and compassionate, but it is quite another to send the wrong message that offenders are above the law because punishment can be postponed or ameliorated. This undermines the rule of law.In fact, enforcing laws is not in any way different from dispensing justice. I am aware of the words of Abraham Lincoln that mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice. Indeed justice and mercy are two virtues which often conflict with one another. But if the rule of law is compromised, dispensation of justice will not be possible. One should not make it so excusable for infidelity to law; otherwise as Abraham Lincoln himself admitted:"He reminds me of the man who murdered both his parents, and then when sentence was about to be pronounced, pleaded for mercy on the grounds that he was an orphan."During the nude-squat Commission of Inquiry proceedings in December, Chief Inspector Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, the officer-in-charge of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters, when asked why accused persons had to do squats in the nude, answered that "this was the tradition or heritage" even though the Lock-Up Rules were silent on ear-squats. Likewise, civil servants in some government departments interpret internal guidelines as if they have the force of law when such guidelines are not subsidiary legislation. These are unlawful practices which are unfortunately practised against those who are not conversant with their legal rights thereby permitting the officials to act above the law. The problem is compounded when such officials do not even know that these administrative practices and guidelines already entrenched in the system, are in fact not laws.Dear Malaysians, our country is governed by the rule of law and not rule the law. No one is above the law, and everyone should be treated equally in their dealings with our public institutions. There is not supposed to be one law for the rich and powerful and another for the poor and oppressed. So, the next time anyone should come along and say to you, "Do you know who I am?" I hope you would find Fuller’s words useful, "Be you never so high, the law is above you."

Bellinger v Belingger

OPINIONS OF THE LORDS OF APPEAL FOR JUDGMENT
IN THE CAUSE

Bellinger (FC) (Appellant) v. Bellinger

LORD NICHOLLS OF BIRKENHEAD

My Lords,
Can a person change the sex with which he or she is born? Stated in an over-simplified and question-begging form, this is the issue raised by this appeal. More specifically, the question is whether the petitioner, Mrs Elizabeth Bellinger, is validly married to Mr Michael Bellinger. On 2 May 1981 Mr and Mrs Bellinger went through a ceremony of marriage to each other. Section 1(c) of the Nullity of Marriage Act 1971, re-enacted in section 11(c) of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, provides that a marriage is void unless the parties are 'respectively male and female'. The question is whether, at the time of the marriage, Mrs Bellinger was 'female' within the meaning of that expression in the statute. In these proceedings she seeks a declaration that the marriage was valid at its inception and is subsisting. The trial judge, Johnson J, refused to make this declaration: see [2001] 1 FLR 389. So did the Court of Appeal, by a majority of two to one: see [2001] EWCA Civ 1140 , [2002] 2 WLR 411. The majority comprised Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss P and Robert Walker LJ. Thorpe LJ dissented.
In an alternative claim, advanced for the first time before your Lordships' House, Mrs Bellinger seeks a declaration that section 11(c) of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 is incompatible with articles 8 and 12 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The Lord Chancellor has intervened in the proceedings as the minister with policy responsibility for that statutory provision.
Mrs Bellinger was born on 7 September 1946. At birth she was correctly classified and registered as male. That is common ground. For as long as she can remember, she felt more inclined to be female. She had an increasing urge to live as a woman rather than as a man. Despite her inclinations, and under some pressure, in 1967 she married a woman. She was then twenty one. The marriage broke down. They separated in 1971 and were divorced in 1975.
Since then Mrs Bellinger has dressed and lived as a woman. She underwent treatment, described below. When she married Mr Bellinger he was fully aware of her background. He has throughout been entirely supportive of her. She was described on her marriage certificate as a spinster. Apart from that, the registrar did not ask about her gender status, nor did Mrs Bellinger volunteer any information. Since their marriage Mr and Mrs Bellinger have lived happily together as husband and wife, and have presented themselves in this way to the outside world.

Well,well...well....that the story of half an man and half a woman!
Weird isn't it!..... but with due respect wobbling doubling

in the mind is dangerous.
Concious vs Desire are two diffrent methodology in approaching.
I ...say...body and soul are miles apart it is something like water and oil,

they by nature do not blend together.

First Day to BHES 1966

Hmmm..........
I supposed everyone remember one first day in school
I think?
Its liked remembering the very first day of the year and every year we celebrated it.
Comes tomorrow paper with the headline, babies born on the new year.Take any newspaper in the world will be the same headlines.
Baby born, new year revellers, caught redhand live on new year I am sure ophs......some would never forgets they looses their v.... on the new year.
I saw in Oprah show some years back, Rod Steward was invited to her show.
There was this lady admmit, she lost her's after spending night out
listening to Rod's 'First Cut Is the Deepest'.
Oh.....la..la what a story ....

Well,back to the story board,

Mum enroll me to school B.H.E.S (Bandar Hilir English School) for my elementary education.
We had roti canai for breakfast,no such thing as cornflake for breakfast!!!Mum a working lady, got no time.
We marched thru' the school gate, holding tight her hands, before living the school compound and leaving me in the care of Mrs.Bala.

My goodness, I can even remember the good samaratian Mrs.Bala.

I supposed just like the southern legand band my all time fellowci Lynnard Skynnard name from Mr.Leonard Skinner the weird physic teacher.
I bet Allen Collin,Ed and Ronnie Van Zent would have a say about this if they were still alive!!!!!

Before depart mum firm words was......

"mie....didunia ini tidak ada tempat untuk orang yang tidak bersekolah......."
I can't translate what it means but let me assured you it hits me till today at 45 going 46.
That is for sure.

Back to the New Year revellers and resolution forget about if you are still 'talking the walk' or
are 'you talk the talk' or 'talk the walk'?

I took the walk to the Ibu Thein Memorial Meuseum while I was in Jakarta last 2 weeks.
To those whom does not know who Ibu Thein is,well....she's meet her lord.
She was the first lady of Indonesia.Everone knows the history.

Stepping into the gallery,a gallery full with presents, presented to her while she was the first lady by Head of States.
My oh my......the collection whooophs..........wow....
there is this massive big huge tree I reckon its Meranti or chengal,a size of a badminton court,a height a guess of at least 50 feet or more being on display.
The very least the age of the tree is 100 years old.
The amazing thing is the tree was dug deep and it roots are still hanging and left dry for the artistic effect.

The tree branches are left to natural dried. The miracle of the tree is, someone or rather a group of master craftmen was commission to crave the epic of Ramayana and Mahabrata on the tree trunk.
Yes....full story epic of the Hindu epic story on a tree trunk varnish to absolute perfect craft and presented to the late Ibu Thein as a present for X'mas. Wow.................stepping out of the gallary, reminds me of my mums firm advise on the first day in school .....
"didunia ini tidak ada tempat untuk orang yang tidak bersekolah".

The master craft who crafted that piece of epic, did really goes to school,
and school he does and no 'University' in this world would dare to challenge his ability on his
skills,patience,preserverence,deternimation on his mastercraftmenship.

But what wonder me most is why chopped down a tree to give the first lady a X'mas present????
Is that an ego trip by the giver? The taker would gladly accepts it!
It is not polite not to accept a present given but I am sure the tree hurts when it was curved
and every body looking that dammed tree.
Might be his soul would crave out loud,
'.......look at me I'm no fool no more than you do?

I say.............Free Birdddddddd..........................
